Hello and welcome to Dahlia Images' Website/Blog!

Dahlia Images Photography is an up and coming photography collective that offers the passion for art in a marriage of wedding photojournalism and artistic wedding photography.

Sad as it is to acknowledge, most of the wedding details that you worked so hard on will be mere memories the next day. The food will be eaten, the dress put away, the monogrammed napkins crumpled. But the photographs will be there to remind you of the memories and document your wedding day.

Our style can be described as "glamorous but natural" - the finished album and prints will be polished and refined ensuring you have beautiful lasting memories of this your special day.

Coverage includes traditional formal shots with informal candid reportage style photography which together serve to document your wedding day as it unfolds.

We are currently servicing Wedding Photography in Malaysia and are constantly looking for new challenges in growing our portfolio. Me and Mrs went to Bangkok on the 28-30th July for a break from all things work, parenting, house chores. It was tiring but good fun. Initially, we bought tickets for little Dahlia, but decided to not bring her along at the last minute because of the recent riots that happened there.In fact, we ourselves almost did not make it for the trip, but last minute changes made the trip possible!

So basically we decided to go backpacker mode and brought minimal clothing, as our flight was at 8.20am on the 28th (Thursday) and by the time of arrival, we figured it would not be check-in time at the hotel, so we came prepared.

We arrived at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport around 10.30am, just after a downpour. The sun was shining, and we were so excited to get off the cramped seats of the Airbus.

The plan was to disembark the aircraft, go straight for immigration, get our head around Bangkok's map with it's tongue twisting names with a cup of coffee then head towards the airport-bangkok city express rail link, but when we got there, an airport police told us the train was not in service.Dang! So plan A (budget-time saving) is out, plan B (cut throat-time wasting) had to be used. We went to the lower ground floor (i think) and came across the 'public-meter' taxi counters and enquired on a cab to Pratunam (a district about an hour from the airport) where we would look (and eventually shop) around the market. They quoted us 450 baht, which is around RM45! Since we didn't have a choice we took it anyway.

We got stuck in a jam on a highway for about 45 minutes, as it was lunch hour.Or maybe it was just everyday traffic in Bangkok, we couldn't be sure, as the driver was the quiet type and we weren't sure if he spoke any English.

Pratunam area is similar to our Jalan Tar, but most of the shops are inside alleys, so if you're planning to go here, you will need to be a bit adventurous. We walked blindly into Soi (street in Thai) and Thanon (Road) around the area for about 3 hours, then sat at a Dunkin Donuts for a quick drink as it was HOT.

We then decided to go to Siam Center/Paragon, but was stopped by a friendly middle aged man, whom introduced himself as an off duty policeman from a suburb.We were skeptical as usual, but as we talked, he appeared to be an honest man, gave us tips on where to shop (though he was a bit over sometimes) and where to go. I asked him where we could find fake goods (watches and handbags) and he recommended Achana (i'm not sure if it's a district or a name of a shop) and called Tuk-Tuk for us. He then told the driver to take us to Achana for 20 baht, wait for us there, then take us to Siam Paragon.

We were very nervous on riding a Tuk-Tuk, plus the notion of getting on a 3 wheeler taxi known for it's world famous hell-bent driving and going to a place we didn't even know existed added to the anxiety. A cousin who recently got back from Bangkok told me the Tuk-Tuk drivers are like mat rempit on 3 wheels, and boy, they really were! Tuk-tuk's are LOUD, not very safe (airbags not included) but really fun to ride. You just have to put your lives in the hands of a stranger and pray to god they don't overturn.

After awhile, we were really tired and it was almost 2pm, so we headed towards the Siam BTS station and board a train towards Silom, where our hotel is located.

A one way ticket costs 20 baht from Siam BTS station to Chong Nonsi (hotel BTS)

Bangkok's BTS, MRT is very efficient, so no worries there. Their BTS is also bigger than KL's LRT and ERL and the rail map is also in English, so it's quite easy to get around. You can buy day, week or month passes too. Just make sure you know the exact name of the stop, because the names can be quite confusing (thankfully i have the Mrs who is an excellent GPS! hehe)

Our hotel, i-Residence Silom is about 10 minute ride from Siam BTS station and about 20 metres from the Silom station, which was fantastic. We were lucky though, as when we booked the hotel we didn't realise it was so close to a BTS station.In fact, we didn't even know where it was!

The hotel was suprisingly good.The staff was friendly, it has a free internet room (you can use internet in-room but at a rate), it has a roof top pool (we didn't get a chance to see it), hot water, coffee tea amenities etc. There are a few eateries downstairs - a doughnut shop, an home made ice cream parlour and a 7-eleven.

Food guide
Halal food is hard to find in Bangkok. Wherever you walk, there will be stalls selling grilled pork on a stick and stuff like that. I googled and found this website for halal food restaurants in Bangkok. You can find Halal eateries anywhere in the world there. Even if the shop sells halal food, it's expensive and doesn't taste that good.

The famous halal food in Bangkok is a yellow coloured rice with grilled chicken and soup. The rice is unlike our pulut, its normal rice only yellow. The Mrs tried that and i had a butter chicken with white rice at a halal stall @ MBK shopping centre food court. We paid almost rm40 for the food and drinks, and it wasn't worth it. The food court uses coupons, so if you'd like, there's a counter that exchanges baht for coupons, and you'll get a cash refund if you have any balance.

The only eatery we found worth mentioning (with high praises) is Mak Yah's at Thanon Petchburi. The area is basically a dead town, with old shops mostly closed and run-down. We saw beggars and homeless people here and there after stopping at Rachathewi BTS Station, about 15-20 minutes from Siam station. You will need to be extra careful when you get there with belongings. Email me if you need directions.
Anyway, Mak Yah's is a comfortable in a homely sort of way, with delicious Thai/Malay food. It's air conditioned (which was great, by the time we got there we were exhausted) and the owners speaks Malay and friendly too. When we walked in, there were other Malaysians as well as locals. The waiter (as we later found out after trying our best to describe/ask about the dishes) also speaks Malay..haha!

On our last night in Bangkok, we decided to splurge for dinner. We took a boat cruise dinner that goes up the Chao Phraya river for about 2 hours. Package includes hotel transfer to and from the jetty. The trip to the jetty took us about half and hour.

The boat we took could easily accommodate around 100 or more people, more like a huge yacht. It had a live filipino band, buffet tables for the lower and upper floors, a dance floor, a kitchen, a big entrance doors etc.The guide/driver will gave us stickers to put on our shirts and tickets with our table number on it. The only downside was the food was mediocre and the Filipino singer kept mumbling the lyrics to the songs she was singing to.They give you free flow of plain water, peanuts and potato crisps but put aside the cocktail drink though, i think it was alcoholic! Oh well, at least we got to see Bangkok at night! We prefer this instead of going to Patpong or other seedy districts.

Besides Wats (Temples), there are also many 5 star hotels along the Chao Phraya river such Hilton, Shangri La, Sheraton and Thai based boutique hotels.

Last Day
On our last day, we checked out early from the hotel around 7am, left our luggage at the lobby and made our way to Chatukchak/Jatukjak weekend market by BTS. The market is located at the far north side of Central Bangkok and at the end of the BTS line. From the station, we walked about 10 minutes to get to the market. It has a few entrances, from outside we couldn't even tell it had a HUGE market in it. When we walked in, stalls were already open.

Chatuchak market is open only on weekends, is divided into multiple sections that is almost impossible to find your way around the stalls. Inside its cramped and hot. So make sure you've got a map in hand (you can get 1 at the airport) that has the market's map in it.On the contrary you can get one at the visitor's centre at the market, though it is a little hard to find.

Try Get-in Coffee stall in the clothing section of the market. We came across the stall and stopped for something cool to drink, we ordered Ice chocolate and toasted bread with butter and sugar topping. The iced chocolate was DELICIOUS and cost only 20 baht.

After Chatuchak market romp, we headed back towards the BTS station for our hotel to take our luggage and took an early taxi to the airport. Cost us 500 baht. We slept all the way to the airport as we were really tired from the walking. We then made early check-in of our luggage and took a few more photos at the airport before going to the immigration/passport control counter.

Once inside we had lunch at Burger King (fish) and walked around some more to pass the time. The airport is (again) huge, as we later found out, as we realized we had walked from one end to another, peeking inside designer and duty free shops.

Sumatran Earthquake Photos

The recent earthquake tragedy that struck the town of Padang, Indonesia on the 30th of September shook everyone, everywhere. The death and injured figures are unfathomable. Despite this, help came from all over the world, from countries as far as Russia and Turkey.

The 7.6 magnitude quake toppled buildings and started many landslides, smashing homes and swallowing up entire villages. The following day, As rescue workers arrived and residents tried their best to dig out and help the survivors, another unrelated quake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck less than 1,000 km south of the original epicenter. Each of the two quakes had at least one aftershock greater than 5.0 as well. Over 1,000 people are known to have died, an additional 3,000 still missing.

The photographs below were taken from boston.com by photographers with enough courage to document the efforts to save lives there. Their pictures tell a stories of hope, fear and courage.

I came across this video on youtube..quite an interesting find. Regardless of the fact that everyone wants to look good, in my honest opinion, a portrait photo should not be manipulated to the point where the person is not the real person behind the camera anymore. Get it? Watch closely how the model's neck was made slimmer and longer at 0.43.

I was searching for an empty parking space in the Taipan USJ area when i saw this Mitsubishi Evo X belonging to the Malaysian police. I have seen it in the news months back when the then PM attended the launching of the car, but never in real life. I am not a car enthusiast by all means, but i just love the idea of the police having a fleet of racing bred cars to patrol highways and chase criminals.Priced at nearly RM300k, it isn't cheap, but boy, this car sure can intimidate those pesky highway bullies.

Hello!

I just got an idea yesterday, that would benefit everyone. The idea is simple, yet brilliant! (At least to me..) Dahlia Images would like to organise a free (yes, free.) outdoor/indoor photoshoot** competition for anyone who is interested on ONE condition. It's a themed photo shoot. :)

The photo shoot is aimed at soon to be married couples, children and even married couples*. All you have to do is e-mail us at dahliaimages@gmail.com and tell us why you think you deserve the free photo shoot. If we think you are eligible to win the free photo shoot, then you win! We'll meet up somewhere (we'll decide the venue later) and off we go..but, you'll need to have a themed attires (no same coloured shirts/dresses please.) dahlia Images would like to go all out on this one, so you might as well! Think out of the box and be creative. Wear attires from the 50s or the 70s, why not?

The winners (yes, there can be more than one winner) will get a cd with the edited photos, a fun shot at being model(s) and then some!

This post is a bit outdated, but i thought i'd post them anyway..
These pictures had me in awe as these people were cheering for their parties in the rain. It's amazing how fanatic one can be when it comes to campaigning during an election.It rained cats and dogs most of the time i was there. But one thing i admire the most is that the cheering was 'friendly' and not hostile as i expected, as this time around, the 3 elections was a close race and most anticipated.

Malaysian Bi-Elections (Parlimen Bukit Gantang P059)

After a short stop for lunch at a eatery across the road from the ISA detention centre in Kamunting, me and a friend decided to take photos in front of the centre, but was chased away by the prison guards. We weren't even allowed to take photos of the sign at the gates. So i took one snap while we were leaving from inside the car. They certainly don't mess around here. One of the male guards even came out to the side of the road and took a good look at us.

We were supposed to cover an event at one of the BN operations center one morning, but was told of another event in Trong about an hour's drive from the town of Taiping. It turned out Datuk Seri Shahrizat were to deliver a speech to a group of women BN supporters. During election campaigns, schedules can get mixed up easily, as there will be a lot of events happening at the same time. It was an important time for Datuk Seri Shahrizat as she had also won the post of Ketua Wanita UMNO during the 59th UMNO gathering recently (24th-29th March) thus ending 22 years of Rafidah Aziz's hold on the top post.

A relative of mine forwarded an email to me with a touching story about true love. I decided to share this with everyone.This is their story.
The girl in the picture is Katie Kirkpatrick, she is 21.Next to her, her fiancé, Nick, 23.The picture was taken shortly before their wedding ceremony, held on January 11, 2005 in the US.Katie has terminal cancer and spend hours a day receiving medication.In the picture, Nick is waiting for her on one of the many sessions of chemo to end.

In spite of all the pain, organ failures, and morphine shots, Katie is going along with her wedding and took care of every detail. The dress had to be adjusted a few times due to her constant weight loss.

An unusual accessory at the party was the oxygen tube that Katie used throughout the ceremony and reception as well.The other couple in the picture are Nick's parents. Excited to see their son marrying his high school sweetheart.

At the reception, Katie had to take a few rests. The pain did not allow her to stand for long periods.
Katie died five days after her wedding day.
Watching a woman so ill and weak getting married and with a smile on her face makes us think.....

Happiness is reachable, no matter how long it lasts .
We should stop making our lives complicated.

Life is short.Break the rules.Forgive.Love truly.Laugh and never stop smiling no matter how strange life is.Life is not always the party as we expect it to be,but as long as we are here, we should smile and be grateful.

You can find Jelly Belly jelly beans in some Famous Amos outlets, but not all. The cheap ones you can find in candy and pickle stalls in malls, but they just don't taste the same.

Puteri Dahlia Raihana, born on the 11th of December 2007, weight 3.06kg, height 48cm.

18th February 2009. Dahlia is 1 year, 2 months old and weigh nearly 10kg. Smart, funny, strong and cute (like all babies, and toddlers) with cute curly hair.

Loves balloons, teddy bears, Thomas & Friends, walks in parks and slides. She dislikes eating, but likes eating whatever ayah and ibu is eating.

Dahlia wakes up at 5 or 6 in the morning and sleeps around 8pm everyday (at least when she's 1 year old).She knows how and where to wash her hands when she's told to, how to hold a mobile phone and speaks to it.

She also loves cats. She shrieks, holds her breath and shiver with excitement when she sees one.Ibu bought her a robot cat that can walk, meow and pause on her first birthday, and ayah bought her a Thomas & Friends collapsible tent. She loves those toys the most.

Ayah and ibu loves Dahlia. That is why we call ourselves Dahlia Images. Our photographic journey is dedicated to her.Click here to view more photos of her.

Dahlia Images is sorry for not updating this site for a while. After a long exciting year, Dahlia Images is taking a short break, when suddenly my daughter has fallen ill, due to Rotavirus; a virus that infects children aged 5 and below. The symptoms include vomitting, diarrhea, and fever. Severe cases will have to be dripped to prevent or maintain dehyrdration. As it was serious (500,000 children worldwide die from Rotavirus Source:Wikipedia), naturally, as parents, me and the mrs brought her to the hospital, where we were advised that my Daughter should be warded.

In all, we stayed in the hospital from Tuesday till mid Saturday.Daughter is recovering, she had lost a lot of weight in those days in the hospital.Skinny like her father.Funny thing was, the moment we got in the car andout of the hospital carpark, she was quiet and at peace, knowing she was returning back home with her toys and the surroundings she was always familiar with.

So, newlyweds, expecting parents, anyone, with a child below 8 months; get the vaccine! Do your research beforehand, allergies can occur.

As expected, Dahlia Images will be back with more bang this year.We will bring more news and photos and stories to tell soon.
